On Saturday, August 19, 1988, Stacy Yamashita, 18, of Japanese heritage from South San Francisco, emerged as the winner in a field of 28 delegates at the 4th Annual Miss Asian of California Pageant. The esteemed first princess was awarded to Cindy Tsao, while Cheryl Lee secured the position of second princess. A tie for the title of third princess was graciously shared by Rachelle Gaspar and Lisa Chen. Karin Co, with her remarkable poise, was named fourth princess. Sukyoung Joo’s outstanding talent earned her the title of Miss Talent, and Mary Jane Ergino was bestowed the honor of Miss Congeniality. These accomplished women represent the essence of empowerment, showcasing the diverse achievements and talents of Asian women in California.
